Inspired by seasonal bounty coming from our gardens and kitchens, let’s look at colourways with a different lens.
Consider the bounty of autumn apples; flecks of purple, gold, cool yellows and a base line of red- how might that translate to coreopsis, tansy, madder and pokeberry dyes? This once a month virtual gathering is an opportunity to be ‘fibre colour nerds’ together, celebrating food, spinning fibres and learning new tips on processing and blending, hosted by Karen Barnaby and Sharon Kallis.
Although this focus is on blending and fibre preparation, if you are new to spinning this is a fantastic way to jump in and fall in love with preparing your own yarn for knitting or weaving projects.
Each month we will collectively look to a different fruit or vegetable that offers exciting opportunities for colour exploration
Participants will need access to a device with a camera and the internet for the zoom sessions, their own wool, combs or carders and drop spindles. First session we will talk about basic ‘tool hacks’ for inexpensive and easy to find tool options. For wool, we are offering Colours: From the Land to Fleece studio program for those that have not been growing their own dye plants.
A basic tool list will be sent out to registered participants the week before first session.
4 Friday nights 7-9pm , Oct 15, Nov 19, Jan 21, Feb 18 ( no December session)
