This ancient stitching technique has been used to make pouches and bags in many parts of the world. In this workshop, participants will start by learning design variations of knotless netting using waxed threads worked over a smooth stone – thus Dressing a Stone. The second project will be creating a Small Pouch with the option of making it into a necklace. Traditionally this technique employed plant fibre cordage so for the second project you will have the option of using cordage you have made yourself or perhaps yarn you have spun.
Needle and thread supplies for the first project will be mailed – instructions on the size and best shape of stone will be provided.
We invite EartHand participants to bring their own fine cordage, waxed spun line or other gleaned and twisted fibres for the second session; applying techniques learned in our first evening to a small project, adapting methods for use with other materials.
Please note: registration closes Nov 16 at 10 am PST to ensure time for posting supplies. Sorry – materials will only be mailed within the province of British Columbia.
