Join Kathy Dunster and Sharon Kallis for starting the flax site at the KPU Farm Learning Garden.
This year, Kathy and Sharon are scaling up a bit- with aid of farm equipment to prep the soil and sow the seeds, but some added help hand-picking of the weeds that come up, as well as marking out the test plots with bamboo stakes, possibly laying bird netting and mapping the test plots will be beneficial.
We will be sowing 5 pounds of Linore seed from Alderley Grange Farm in Saanich in different densities, testing local grocery store seeds as well as sowing the favourite varieties to date sourced from the Canadian Seed Bank.
Members of the public are welcome to just join in, but getting a ticket means we can get in touch in case our days plans need to shift.
bring a lunch and water bottle, sunscreen and hat recommended, there is a portapotti on site.
The farm is approximately a 20-30 minute walk from the Lansdowne Skytrain station, other routes with buses can get you within a 10 minute walk
A map PDF will be emailed to registrants closer to the date.
