Led by Jaymie Johnson with Guest Artist Harvest (Kim) Strathopolous

Thursday evenings, 7:00-8:30 PST

Jan 28, Feb 11 & 25, Mar 11 & 25, Apr 8

Become comfortable weaving both on and off a form using twining and coiling techniques. This guild is an opportunity to build the skills required for weaving larger bags, baskets, and hats in future guilds! Found and repurposed household materials including old textiles, soft plastic, wire, and other on-hand fibres will be the focal material for this winter guild. Participants will share virtually which materials they’re investigating, with time each week spent covering a required technique from starts, shaping, adding materials and spokes, rims, patterns, and braiding or rope strap options. Additional time each week will be dedicated to round table questions and sharing of successes with the group.

Some weaving experience is a bonus but not necessary – guild members may need to do their own research and youtube deep dives for additional weaving assistance. Depending on the speed you work, you may make several projects throughout the guild or do less weaving between sessions and complete one project.

Previous weaving guild participants are welcome to join and undertake larger or more technical projects with guidance and support from Jaymie, Harvest, and fellow guild participants.

Jaymie will lead 4 twining sessions and Harvest will lead 2 coiling sessions. Both artists are based in Nelson BC on the traditional territory of the Sinixt people.
