EartHand Gleaners Society invites you to join Ada Dragomir in the Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre lobby where she will be demonstrating Drop Spindling—an ancient technique for spinning wool (and other fibres) into yarn or thread.
Watch the process unfold and learn about the local fibreshed, working with wool from local sheep on Barnston Island and colours from local plants that grow in the two environmental art learning gardens managed by EartHand in collaboration with the Vancouver Park Board’s Decolonizing Arts and Culture Program.
Ada has been a part of the Braiding Past Threads to Present Place Artist Research Cohort, working with other emerging and established artists in a supportive environment to conduct personal investigations into ancestral cloth traditions, land-based work with fibres and plants, spinning, dying, and weaving.
Spinners, bring your drop spindle and fibre!
For those that are fibre-curious, have a seat and spend some time in conversation with Ada.
Wednesday evenings, December 7th and 14th from 5-7:30pm
and Friday afternoons, December 9th and 16th from 12:30-3pm.

Facilitator bio: Ada Dragomir’s work feels most at home somewhere between spoofed youtube videos and serious sculptural objects in so-called Vancouver, BC. By harnessing the power of absurdity and irony to point to uncomfortable political realities, her practice addresses questions of value and labour, but ultimately aims to point stubbornly towards life.
