Virtual (Zoom)

Co-hosted by Jaymie Johnson and Sharon Kallis

How can we move our bodies and be outside while our hands are busy? What are we making, what are our materials, where and how do we move during our maker practice, and how do seasonal-based activities impact our maker-time?

From ropemaking, braiding, spinning, drawing, and beyond; the intention of making while on the move can expand our practice to experimental forms of making, and help set us up for longer periods of sedentary studio time.

This virtual program will begin with an introductory session where we will share our making-while-moving intentions for the summer, and inspirations and ideas for each other to explore. Participants will have approximately 5 months to “make while on the move” in a self-directed way while having access to an online Slack community to share ideas and reflections along the way. Our midsummer check-in will be an experimental Zoom call-in audio session while walking/working, and the third and final virtual gathering provides an opportunity for each participant to share their process and reflections with the group while back indoors.

Join us to explore the possibilities of making while moving and engaging with the world outside of our studio doors!

*Aug 7 is a call-in experimental session. Let’s be outside on our phone together, sharing where we are working. Ideally participants will have headphones, a cell phone or other portable device with data, and be in full service for this session.
